This story of Hashima island, which provided the setting of the secret lair in the movie Skyfall, is fascinating. Over its history, the island was owned by Mitsubishi Corp., has served as a coal mining town, a labor camp for prisoners from China and Korea during the WWII and was finally abandoned in the 70s, when the mine was closed.
Who would think that this island was once the most densely populated place in the world. Or, that this is where the first reinforced concrete residential complexes, that are used as blueprint all over world today, were built. Or, that it was torpedoed by american ships because it looked so much like a battle ship. Amazing.
